MicroTrap VOD/Data Recorder

VOD Recording Applications:
1. Records the velocity of detonation (VOD) continuously along the length of
columns of explosives loaded into one or several blastholes and records the
delay time between decks of explosives if the blastholes are decked.
2. Determines the delay times between multiple blastholes.
3. Records the VOD continuously along the length of a sample of explosives or
sample of detonating cord.
Other Recording Applications:
4. Record VOD on the VOD Channel and simultaneously record pressure (or
vibration etc.) on optional "Scope" Channels 1 to 4.
5. Use Scope channels without using the VOD channel for any data acquisition
application including temperature, strain, vibration, pressure, acceleration or
any other signal that has an output within ?0 VDC.
6. Use lower speeds to record longer events in extreme environmental and high-G
situations where most data acquisition systems would not survive.

Users: Mines, Quarries, Blasting Contractors,
Explosives Manufacturers, Universities, Government Laboratories, Blasting
Consultants. Although designed for the blasting industry, the MicroTrap with
Scope Upgrade is a portable, rugged, multi-purpose data acquisiton device
suitable for all researchers.
Description: The MicroTrap is the "World's
Standard in VOD Recording". It is also the most affordable explosives continuous
VOD recorder for testing explosives loaded into one or more blastholes and for
testing explosives samples. For explosives samples, the procedure is identical
to that for the
HandiTrap. For blastholes, within minutes the blaster can tape the end of
VOD
PROBECABLE or PROBECABLE-LR to the booster and load it into the blasthole,
connect the other end of the PROBECABLE with electrical tape to the coaxial
signal cable on the cable reel and extend the signal cable to the MicroTrap
where it is connected. The MicroTrap can record up to 900 m (3000 ft.) of VOD
resistance PROBECABLE-LR per blast - that's a lot of blastholes per test. It can
record one or many holes per blast as well as provide the blaster with the delay
times between holes, and the delay times between decks of explosives. Before
leaving the blast, the Operator turns ON the MicroTrap and presses the START
button and leaves the MicroTrap unattended to record the results automatically
when the blasthole(s) fires. When the explosives detonates, the MicroTrap
automatically records distance and time data - the data are securely stored in
the MicroTrap's non-volatile memory. Up to 16 tests can be stored before
transferring data to a PC at some later time.
With the optional 4 channel Scope Upgrade, and recording speeds from 1 Hz to 1
MHz per Scope channel, the MicroTrap is suitable for a wide range of data
acquisition applications.
The large amounts of data collected by the MicroTrap are quickly transferred to
a computer through the LPT printer port or USB port. The MicroTrap Advanced
Analytical Software for Windows makes the transfer of data, analysis, graphical
presentation, and printing of the results a simple point-and-click operation.
The Operator can precisely profile the change in length with time of the VOD
PROBEROD (explosives samples) or VOD PROBECABLE (blastholes) as it is consumed
in the detonation head. If the Scope channels are used, the Operator can quickly
and easily view high resolution voltage data versus time and change the voltage
to any engineering units as defined by the Operator using the conversion formula
for the gauges that were recorded.
Accessories: Reel-in-a-box of 1000 m (3280 ft.)
VOD PROBECABLE for one person loading into one or several blastholes. 0.9 m (3
ft.) long rigid VOD PROBEROD for inserting into an explosives sample. Other
gauges including uniaxial velocimeter, airblast and underwater pressure gauges.
Coaxial signal cable (RG-58/U) for connecting between the VOD PROBECABLE or VOD
PROBEROD or other gauge and the MicroTrap.
Requirements: A PC running Windows '95 or later
is required for post-test data transfer, graphical display of time versus
distance, voltage, or user-defined units. All software is provided at no
additional cost and may be installed on an unlimited number of PCs.
